Tesco Clubcard: Benefits, and How to Earn and Spend Points

Benefits of Having a Tesco Clubcard

  • Clubcard Prices: Clubcard holders are eligble for discounted prices and offers on selected products. These Clubcard Prices can offer significant savings and supermarket chains in general are increasingly raising prices on items and then offering a “loyalty price” to try to encourage customers to sign-up to their loyalty programmes.

  • Special Offers: Clubcard members receive personalised offers based on their shopping habits. These targeted promotions can help you save even more on the items you frequently buy. You can find these in the Coupons section of the app - you do need to agree to marketing in order to receive these.

  • Vouchers and Coupons: Every three months, your accumulated points are converted into vouchers in 50 point increments. These vouchers can be used for money off your Tesco shopping or redeemed with various reward partners for greater value. You typically get 1 point per £, and points are worth 1p (so £100 would equate to a £1 voucher), represent a saving of 1%. However, you can get 2x value if used with some of their over 100 reward partners, and if you are savvy about it, there are often further offers to take advantage of. See best value here.

How to Earn Tesco Clubcard Points

Register for a Clubcard online

  • Shopping at Tesco: The primary way to earn Clubcard points is by shopping at Tesco. You earn 1 point for every £1 you spend in-store and online. There are also often promotions that offer bonus points on specific products.

  • Tesco Fuel: Fill up your tank at Tesco petrol stations and earn 1 point for every £2 you spend on fuel. It’s a simple way to rack up points.

  • Tesco Bank: Using Tesco Bank products, such as credit cards and insurance, can significantly boost your points. Tesco Clubcard Credit Cardholders earn an additional 1 point for every £4 spent at Tesco (incl. on fuel) and 1 point for every £8 spent outside of Tesco.

  • Tesco Mobile: If you have a Tesco mobile phone, you can collect clubcard points through your spend. You earn 1 point for every £1 you spend either on your bill (if pay monthly) or that you top up to a pay as you go sim (through any method including the app, online, in Tesco stores, or by calling 4444 from your Tesco Mobile phone)

  • Partner Offers: Tesco has partnered with various retailers and service providers. By spending with these partners, you can earn additional points. Keep an eye out for these offers, as they can be a lucrative source of points.

Best Ways to Spend Your Clubcard Points

Tesco Clubcard points don’t just have to be used on groceries. In fact, the most lucrative way to use your clubcard points is with their reward partners. You can redeem through the Tesco app. Below are your options, from highest value to least.

Look out for special offers to boost your vouchers - these change over time, but are worth keeping an eye out for. For example…

  • Virgin Red: Earn 5,000 bonus points when you sign up to auto-exchange your Tesco Clubcard points (until 4 May 2025) - valued at minimum £25 (depending on the Virgin redemption)

  • Other recent offers include tripling your points' value when redeeming with partners like Pizza Express, Cineworld, or Hotels.com.

Most partnerships offer 2x value as default - meaning a £10 Clubcard voucher could be worth £20 in rewards. Their partners include lots of big names across travel and leisure, some ideas are:

  • Travel Rewards: Clubcard points can be used with travel partners to spend on railcards, or help you get to your destination. Some big name redemptions include Virgin Atlantic, Eurotunnel, P&O ferries, Easyjet, National Express. They also have deals with hotels.com and some other hotel chains including Warner hotels, Butlins, Mercure and Macdonald hotels.

  • Family Fun: Use your points for family outings and activities. Partners include attractions like Legoland, Alton Towers, and various zoos, theme parks and aquariums. You can also use them for cinema tickets, and Disney+ subscriptions.

  • Lifestyle and Health: Save on everyday wellness with partnerships such as Hussle gyms and Fitbit. They also have many Magazine Subscriptions on offer, covering most of the popular brands.

  • Eating Out: Redeem your points for meals at popular restaurant chains including ASK Italian, Cafe Rouge, Brewdog Bars, Prezzo, Zizzi, Hungry Horse pubs, Bella Italia, Chef & Brewer, and Pizza Express.

    • Top tip: Given these chains almost always have great easy to access deals and vouchers, and you generally cannot combine the clubcard vouchers with these deals, we would recommend saving clubcard points to use with other partners instead.

1x reward offering with Tesco brands:

  • Tesco Shopping: Of course, you can always use your points for money off your Tesco shopping. This is a straightforward way to reduce your grocery bills, but the rate is halved vs using them with their rewards partners.

  • Tesco Mobile: Take money directly off your phone bill

Watch-out: Tesco vouchers are for 24 months from issuing. You can easily see them all in your app, so just make sure you don’t leave them too long.

Is Tesco Clubcard Plus worth it?

Clubcard Plus isn’t cheap at £7.99 per month, but if you spend a decent amount in Tesco and are loyal to the Tesco Brands, it could pay for itself (and more)

Clubcard Plus gives you:

  • 10% off two shops of your choice in-store

  • 10% off F&F and selected Tesco brands all the time - F&F clothing, Tesco Pet range, Fred & Flo, Go Cook and Fox & Ivy homeware, Go Play and Go Create toys, games and crafts, and Paperchase

  • Double data every month on any pay monthly contract from Tesco Mobile

  • Potential eligibility for a Clubcard Plus Credit Card with Tesco Bank - though frankly there are much better credit cards out there…

Compared to other options out there, we wouldn’t recommend the Tesco Mobile or Credit Card, but if you do your grocery shopping in fortnightly big shops at Tesco (spending >£40 each time), or if you buy a lot from the Tesco brands, you could easily recoup your investment in Clubcard Plus.

They are also currently running a 1-month free trial for all new subscribers to Clubcard Plus (only eligible if you have not had a subscription within the last 6 months). After the free trial period ends, the £7.99 subscription fee will be charged automatically, but you could always sign-up for the free trial and cancel before the subscription is charged if you are organised!
